When BKSDA West Kalimantan and our partners, YIARI, rescued Isin, she was only three years old, locked inside a small wooden crate in a village in West Borneo.

Her cage was barely big enough for her to move. Through the cracks, rescuers saw her frightened eyes watching them, her small hands gripping the wood.

The man who found her said she was alone near a palm oil plantation. But a baby orangutan that young is never alone by choice. Isin had likely seen her mother killed.

At YIARI’s rehabilitation center in Ketapang, she began the long process of healing and learning to be wild again, surrounded by the care and patience of her rescuers.

Now, there are more little ones who need that same chance. Mawa, Xavier, and Zeno are three orphaned orangutans who have lost their mothers and are now being raised through YIARI’s surrogacy program. Each of them has been paired with a surrogate mother who will teach them how to climb, forage, and survive on their own.

But this work takes years of dedication, specialized care, and funding. Your support makes it possible.
