Now Thank We All Our God is one of the classic hymns traditionally sung around Thanksgiving Day in the USA annually. It was written in 1636 by Martin Rinkart. His text was matched with the hymn tune, NUN DANKET, written by Johann Crüger in 1647.
This arrangement starts with an augmented unison setting of the first stanza, followed by an a capella setting of the second stanza in four-part harmony. The final stanza of Maker In Whom We Live is included for musical variety. It is a doxology, as is the final stanza of Now Thank We All Our God, which features a descant and an option to include your congregation. The arrangement ends with a three-fold amen.
Now Thank We All Our God can be sung as a standalone piece for the Thanksgiving season, or at any worship service where the focus is on gratitude, or the Eucharist. The anthem joyfully expresses gratitude for God’s unconditional love. This anthem can also be sung as part of a larger work, A Service of Holy Communion. The Holy Communion theme of Now Thank We All Our God is Thanksgiving.
There are two accompaniment options:
• Piano and String Orchestra
• Piano
