LONDON, ENGLAND - British High Court Judge Justice John Cavanagh delivers the sentence for Urfan Sharif and Beinash Batool, the father and stepmother of Sara Sharif, who were found guilty of her murder.
The father of Sara Sharif has been sentenced to a minimum of 40 years for killing his 10-year-old daughter. Urfan Sharif, 42, and Sara’s stepmother Beinash Batool, 30, murdered the schoolgirl, subjecting her to “horrific suffering” for more than two years.
Sara’s uncle, 29-year-old Faisal Malik, who lived in the family home, was cleared of her murder but found guilty of causing or allowing her death.
The three appeared at the Old Bailey today for sentencing. Batool was sentenced to a minimum term of 33 years, while Malik received a term of 16 years.
The trio were convicted last week following an eight-week trial in which jurors heard Sara suffered more than 25 broken bones, scalding marks to her feet, and human bites during a campaign of abuse. Sara’s body was found at the family’s home in Surrey last year.
A UK court will on Tuesday (today) hand down its sentences on the father and stepmother of a British-Pakistani girl, who died from prolonged and horrific abuse in a case which shocked the UK.
Sara Sharif was just 10 when she was found dead in her bed in August 2023, her body covered in bites and bruises, with broken bones and burn marks.
A post-mortem revealed she had more than 100 injuries, and at least 25 broken bones.
Her father Urfan Sharif, 43, admitted to beating her with a cricket bat, as she was bound by packaging tape in the weeks before her death. He also throttled her with his bare hands, breaking the hyoid bone in her neck.
Urfan Sharif and Sara’s stepmother, Beinash Batool, 30, were found guilty last week after a 10-week trial at the Old Bailey in London.
