Methods to open up Slit Lamp Binocular Head to clean prism assembly.
**After you remove the front cover, mark the edge with a thin line (hash mark) to mark exactly where the two parts meet together so that when you reassemble you can match your hash marks and get it back together in the closest original alignment.
Use a razor blade or 2mm screw if necessary to pull out assembly from housing. Work slowly, pulling out evenly.
Chin rest paper can be helpful. You can even remove the anchoring posts to clean underneath. But be sure to re-attach.
Clean every prism surface.
Acetone or nail polish remover to remove excess glue.
Windex glass cleaner to clean the prism surfaces.
Shine light to observe progress.
Upon reassembly, look through your binoculars at a focus bar and verify that the two sides are still in alignment.
Important Detail Remember to remove the LARGER screws to remove the prism assembly for cleaning purposes. The SMALLER screws are for adjusting alignment.
