Apology Letter and Explanation Letter.
Followers, Other Railfanners and Fellow Amtrak Employees,
The reason I was blasted the horn wasn’t for a hornshow. It was because I stood WAY closer than I should have. Railroad Safety matters on this channel and throughout the world, and I violated it without thinking.
Northeast Regional #164 stopped at New London, CT just shy of 3:50 P.M. Engineer@NicholasFlorenzano was operating and I was super excited because I KNEW he’d give a SAAHC hornshow. Fortunately, he gave two as it departed.
I was smiling. The ACS-64 started giving its crossing sequence, and I was ready with my tripod. The second long horn, I noticed it was held long due to me recording. Little did I know, in that instant, I realized how close I was. Past the gate on the abandoned track. I saw the engineer’s hand waving frantically for me to move out of the way, and I was stuck. My portable charger was plugged into the phone, and if I moved any more, the camera would have fallen and ruined the shot. If I hadn’t, the Amtrak Police could have came and gave me a serious warning/consequence. Now thinking back, I should have unplugged and charger and ran out of the way.
Everyone, I want you to know that I’m NOT one of those crazy formers that get crazy close-up footage in which goal is to disrupt Railroad Service. I merely tend to film trains for this channel. I got into trains at a young age, and don’t plan to give up the topic any time soon.
My Explanation: (Although there’s no excuse)
I decided to go down to the Water St. Grade Crossing next to the Block Island Ferry Entrance. I knew that Engineer Nicolas was operating. I knew he was operating this train because I was at Kingston, RI not too long ago and he was operating the same train with the same pattern of SAAHCs. I ran up to the fence to wave at him when the train stopped. (Don’t know if he noticed me.) I ran back to the tripod 10 seconds later to make sure no one snatched. A lime Amtrak Railroad Work truck was in the way, so it would have blocked the shot. So I went to the track where it was on, which gave me a better view. Before I did so, in my mind I said “One time won’t kill me, right?” It almost did. After 164 passes, I sprint back to the station with a mix of agony, stress, and realization that I put my life on the line filming a train for a channel with not even 300 subscribers.
There is no excuse for my actions that day, and I really REALLY hope you guys can forgive me.
Blessings,
Armenian Railfan
@NicholasFlorenzano (he commented on one of my shorts so he might see),
I was the one kid in that big light flannel jacket inside of the grade crossing. I’m truly sorry for what I did and where I was at the wrong time. I got in the way of the Second busiest train in the states in which you yourself were operating, and there’s truly no excuse for what I did. I really did try moving as well, and I was frozen in fear by my own actions.
Hopefully we can find each other again trackside soon. Thanks for the hornshow, and Happy Holidays.
God Bless,
Armenian Railfan.
