These hybrids were developed through selective breeding over thousands of years, starting in Southeast Asia. The Cavendish banana, the most common commercial variety, is a product of this hybridization and is genetically identical across most plantations, making it a clone rather than a diverse hybrid in the modern sense.

Apples: Apples (Malus domestica) are also hybrids, originating from the wild species Malus sieversii in Central Asia, with contributions from other species like Malus sylvestris. Domestication is estimated to have begun around 4,000–10,000 years ago, and modern apples are complex hybrids due to centuries of crossbreeding.

Unlike bananas, apples are not sterile and can produce seeds, but they are typically propagated through grafting to maintain consistent traits, as seedlings from cross-pollination often yield unpredictable results. Varieties like Gala, Fuji, or Granny Smith are the result of deliberate crosses to enhance flavor, size, or disease resistance. Apples are genetically diverse, with thousands of cultivars worldwide.
