As political realignments gather pace ahead of the 2027 general elections, National Leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has declared that he is open to a merger or alliance only if it guarantees him either the presidential or vice-presidential ticket. Speaking to supporters at his Miller Road residence in Kano, Kwankwaso stressed that any partnership must acknowledge his political influence and nationwide support base. He also dismissed reports suggesting that Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf plans to defect to the All Progressives Congress, describing such claims as a betrayal and denying any pact to join the APC. As speculation grows about possible opposition alliances, including talks linking Kwankwaso with Peter Obi, NNPP spokesperson Ladipo Johnson joins the programme to clarify the party’s position, merger timelines, negotiation terms, and its plans to protect its political stronghold in Kano State.
