The death toll from a 7.2-magnitude earthquake in Haiti climbed to 1,297 on August 15, 2021, a day after it turned thousands of structures into rubble and set off rescue efforts, leaving at least 5,700 people injured, with thousands more displaced from their destroyed or damaged homes.

The earthquake struck the southwestern part of the hemisphere’s poorest nation, triggering landslides that hampered rescue efforts in a country already struggling with the coronavirus pandemic, a presidential assassination and a wave of gang violence.

In this MYD Global episode we speak to Stephanie Christensen, Executive Director, ShelterBox Canada about their Haitian relief efforts. At the time of taping, it was estimated that over 80,000 homes were either damaged or destroyed.

Shelterbox will be providing emergency shelter and basic essentials like water purification, solar-powered lights, cooking equipment, mosquito nets and blankets. Any support towards these efforts is greatly appreciated.
