Boyuan has spent 11 years working for London Underground across multiple signalling projects as a multiple discipline Railway Signalling Engineer before joining Jacobs as a Senior Principal System Safety Engineer. He is a Chartered Engineer and a IRSE licenced tester with principal knowledge on numerous CBTC based signalling systems. Throughout the years he has accumulated a vast amount of experience on the testing & commissioning of signalling systems and rolling stock, performance and reliability analysis and Cybersecurity.

Abstract:
Integration Testing plays a crucial part in the life cycle of any complex railway signalling project. However, its dependency on the availability of possessions and track access is always a critical path on the programme schedule which can often cause high levels of risk and potential delays.
What if something can be done so that the integration testing can be carried out off-site as much as possible before moving on-site to aid the delivery of the programme?
A testing environment simulation tool can provide a platform to carry out the majority of these tests which used to require possessions, eliminating risk and reducing both service and project delivery delays to be booked to carry out the tests.
The proposed solution was to simulate a virtual test track environment and feed this to the rolling stock so that the onboard signalling system can be tested without the need a physical test track.
This presentation will detail the systematic approach taken in the development of this tool from conception to handover including developing the concept and system architecture identifying all the elements that forms the building blocks for the construction of the virtual environment.
