All around the world, people love writing and singing about love between boys and girls. Most stories, poems, and plays—no matter if they are sad or happy, from India or Europe—focus on love. Famous stories like Romeo and Juliet show how strong and important this feeling is. Some people think true love is just a fairy tale, but that's not true. Love is a real part of being human, and that’s why it is in so many books and stories.
Sometimes, love is just a simple attraction. But in other cases, love can be so powerful that people do anything for it—even risking their lives. Every year, some people become very sad or even hurt themselves because of love. It’s surprising why two people who love each other so much don’t just ignore everyone else and stay together, but life is not that simple. Everyone feels small moments of love, and most people experience it at some point in their lives.
Love is so important and real that it’s strange philosophers haven't studied it much, even though poets always write about it. Some philosophers talked about love, but usually not deeply or seriously. So, the writer decided to think about it in their own way.
The root of all love—even the purest kind—is sexual attraction. This attraction is very powerful and guides many of our actions, sometimes even distracting important leaders and scientists! It can make honest people act strangely and cause friends to break promises. Love can turn lives upside down, and it makes us wonder: why is it so strong?
If you look deeper, you will see that the real purpose of love is to decide who the parents of the next generation will be. The way people fall in love now shapes the future children who will be born. That’s why the topic of love always feels so big and important—it is not just about two people; it’s about the future of humanity.
When someone feels love for a special person, it is actually a wish for a new life to be born from those two people. When lovers look at each other, a new life starts to form in a way. If they cannot be together, it’s as if that possible life is never born. Love’s real job is to bring together two people who can create a new, unique child.
Nature wants the best combinations. People often look for health, strength, and beauty in those they love, because these qualities mean better children. Other things, like body shape, teeth, and even age, also matter, usually without us realizing it.
Men and women are pulled towards each other by this hidden force, which is really the “will to live” trying to create a new life. Men often lose interest after their wish is fulfilled, but women usually want to stay with one partner, because they need help and protection for their child.
Love is guided by instinct. Instinct is a kind of trick by nature. We think we are choosing for our own happiness, but really, we are making choices that help our species survive. Instinct works in animals, too. For example, a bird builds a nest for her babies, not just for herself. People are guided by instinct to find a partner who will help make a strong and healthy child.
People are attracted to beauty because it often shows good health and strong genes. But people also look for qualities they don’t have, hoping their child will be a better mix. For example, a short person might like someone tall.
Sometimes love is so strong, it feels magical, and people will do anything for it—even dangerous things. But when that strong love is finally achieved, sometimes the excitement disappears. That’s because nature’s real goal—making a child—has been completed.
Often, people marry for love thinking it will make them happy forever, but after the “illusion” of love is gone, they may find they are not as happy as they expected. This is why some love marriages are not successful for the couple, even though nature’s goal of making the next generation is met.
People may also marry for convenience, like when parents choose partners for their children. These marriages might be better for the people now, but may not be as good for the next generation.
In the end, every person’s deep wish to love is actually the wish of life itself—to keep going. We all work hard to escape problems and find happiness, but love keeps the world going, bringing new people into life, just like it has for thousands of years. --------
