Philippine Christmas season typically starts in September. But when the air becomes cooler, advent week begins and people come to attend the Simbang Gabi, we also see the comforting Christmas season street food, puto bumbong. This purple rice cake is traditionally steamed in bamboo tubes then wrapped in banana leaves. It is coated with butter and topped with grated coconut and muscovado or brown sugar. When you're far from home for Christmas, it is quite easy to miss this delicacy. But we found that you can easily make this yourself, even without the bamboo steamer and enjoy reminiscing fun Christmas times in the Philippines.

Recipe :
• 2 cups glutinous rice flour
• pinch of salt
• 1/2 up all purpose cream
• 1/2 cup water
• 1 tbsp liquid food colouring or 1/8 tsp paste base food colouring
• grated coconut
• muscovado sugar
Steam for 15 minutes
