We Left The Island for 3 Days and the House Froze (Final Baby Prep)

Описание: We left the island for three days… and when we came back, the house had nearly frozen.
This week begins on the mainland side in Baine Harbour, Newfoundland, where we load up the boat with everything Kelly and I will need to hold fast on the island for the next few weeks or more while we wait for the baby. After bringing my mom and sister to the airport in St. John’s, it was finally time to make the trip back home.
Leaving an off-grid house in the middle of winter always carries a bit of risk.
After almost three days away, we open the door to a cold house and quickly get the wood stove going to bring some warmth back inside. While the fire begins to take hold, we sit down for a quick cup of tea before heading back outside to start unloading the boat.
Things get a little more interesting when we discover the Bike has frozen up and won’t start, which means hauling all of the gear up to the house by hand.
Once we’re settled back in, the work continues. With Kelly well into her pregnancy and deep in the nesting phase, we decide it’s time to add some much needed organization to the bedroom. I begin building a custom built-in closet while Kelly pulls out her 1950’s Singer sewing machine and makes a set of simple closet curtains using recycled bed sheets.
The following day we take advantage of some warmer weather to make a few improvements to our off-grid water system and refill the tanks in the mechanical room. After that we head into the bathroom to install Kelly’s new faucets along with a freestanding cast iron tub shower head.
