Nana Fadanvis or Balaji Janardan Bhanu, was an influential minister and statesman of the Maratha Empire during the Peshwa administration in Pune.

Nana's administrative, diplomatic, and financial skills brought prosperity to the Maratha Empire and his management of external affairs kept the Maratha Empire away from the thrust of the British.

His Mansion near Wai is the best example of architectural art. Spacious rooms standing on strong designer wooden piller, wall paintings, a typical design of Marathi Mansion called Wada.
It has open spaces for social gatherings, dining etc.

Nana, being a record keeper, used to maintain his administrative letters and account related documents in ancient script called Modi script at Menawali Dafter or office in the wada. These documents are now preserved in Deccan college, Pune.

Menawali ghat is always a place of choice for Bollywood or Marathi filmmakers. Movies like Swades, Singham, Gangajal, Yz had been shooted on the Menawali ghat. Surrounding nature is peaceful with view of forts like pandavgad and kamalgad.

One can get to see huge bell mounted Infront of Meneshwar temple, Shiva temple on the Menawali ghat. This bell was actually a Portuguese church bell originally present on Vasai fort. Chimaji Appa won the fort and get the bell over here as a symbol of victory over Portuguese.

Nice blend of Nature, history, architecture, painting is there art Menawali and thus it is must to visit place when in Wai.
