Born in Blainville-Crevon, France, Marcel Duchamp was one of the most revolutionary and influential artists of the 20th century. His work, which challenged traditional ideas of art and aesthetics, laid the foundation for Dadaism and Conceptual Art. Duchamp famously rejected the notion that art needed to be beautiful or skillfully crafted, instead focusing on the idea and concept behind the piece.
One of his most iconic works is "Fountain" (1917), a porcelain urinal signed "R. Mutt," which Duchamp submitted as an art piece. This readymade object became one of the most influential statements in modern art history, questioning what defines art and who decides its value. Duchamp’s radical approach shifted the art world’s focus from craftsmanship to intellectual provocation, altering the course of contemporary art.
