The first of trains from Chinese suppliers have already been delivered and are being readied for use by the Metro Rail Transport Line 3 or MRT-3. . . However, it has been revealed that aside from the need to adapt the Chinese trains to the signalling system of the MRT-3 and to have them undergo thousands of kilometers of testing before being put into operation, the MRT needs to upgrade its power supply system in order to be able to use four-car configurations as envisioned with the use of the Chinese trains . . . Department of Transportation officials told a congressional hearing that it has started the bidding process for the procurement of facilities and equipment to upgrade the MRT power supply system . . . It expects the contract to be awarded before the year ends . . . However, implementation of the contract and the installation of the power supply facilities will take up to 12 months . . . This means that any real improvement in train operations on the MRT will only be experienced after at least one year from awarding of the contract . . .
