Borrow و Lend
Borrow is a verb.
It means: to take something from someone with the intention of returning it later.
In Arabic, it’s translated as استعار or اقترض depending on the context.
• Lend is also a verb.
It means: to give something to someone with the expectation that they’ll return it.
In Arabic, it’s translated as أعار or أقرض.
So, the key difference is:
👉 If you borrow, you’re the one receiving.
👉 If you lend, you’re the one giving.
Borrow:
• “Can I borrow your pen?”
→ I want to use your pen and give it back later.
• “She borrowed money from her friend.”
→ She took money that she’ll repay.
• Lend:
• “I’ll lend you my book.”
→ I’m giving you my book temporarily.
• “Their friend lent them $5,000.”
→ Their friend gave him money to be repaid.
