This watercolour painting set is designed for you to learn and practise the basic watercolour painting techniques and colour mixing.
All the painting materials needed are all in the kit. The designs have been drawn by pencil on 100% cotton Saunders Waterford watercolour paper. One traditional Chinese sable hair brush and One little red hair detailing painting brush, and five A J Ludlow Professional Watercolours, Burnt Sienna, Sepia, Ultramarine Blue, Cadmium Scarlet and Raw Sienna.
Start with “Young girl in brown at coat” to learn and practise wet-on-wet painting techniques and simple colour mixing.
The second painting “The Japanese doll” is more complex, but still uses the same painting techniques and colour mixing as in the first painting. Gwen John was well known for her choice of subdued colours, reflected in the background colours being very close, and so requires subtle adjustments of the pigments in each mixture.
