A story of struggle, resilience, and a small ray of hope! Following the impactful report on Kanak News, electricity has finally been restored to the house of four orphaned siblings in Malkangiri’s Tala Sahi. However, their battle for a basic life is far from over.
15-year-old Mamali has become a mother figure to her three younger siblings—Santosh, Megha, and Shiba—after their father passed away recently and their mother abandoned them years ago. They are currently living in a broken shack made of sticks and polythene, with no doors or toilets.
Despite being in the district headquarters, these children are deprived of PDS rice and government housing because they don't have Aadhaar cards. Mamali works as a daily laborer to feed her siblings while trying to study for her 10th exams through open school. While the CWC has promised residential schooling and a concrete house in the future, the children are still living in miserable conditions today.
