First introduced by SsangYong Motors in the early 2000s, the Rexton was the first Korean vehicle to provide a genuine Jeep-like off-roading experience. It also offered luxury features and a ride quality on par with the Mercedes GLS, even in tough road conditions.

The collaboration with Mercedes-Benz, which supplied shared engine technology, helped elevate the Rexton into the luxury SUV category, similar to the G-WAGEN.

More recently, KGM, a commercial vehicle manufacturer, acquired SsangYong Motors. With this acquisition, KGM aims to compete with Land Rover's renowned reputation for producing high-end luxury SUVs.
