Note at 0:17:16 this service passes over the forth rail bridge linkning Edinburgh to Fife.
Services on this route in the full ScotRail timetable operate hourly as an (almost) all stations service between Edinburgh and Leven. There are additional hourly stopping services as far as Kirkcaldy which continue to Perth and semi fast services calling at limited stations which continue to Dundee. There are fast services using this route which are non stop Haymarket to Cupar as part of the Aberdeen service alongside limited LNER services to and from London Kings Cross via the ECML as well as daily Cross Country services from Birmingham and the south west.
Leven services are planned to increase to twice an hour from 2025 with the additional service operating via the fife circle route through Dunfermline City providing a slower additional Edinburgh service and connections to stations on this line.
The rolling stock on this route is a mix of 2 carriage class 158 Express Sprinter trains which can operate in formations of 2, 4 or 6 carriages as well as 3 carriage class 170 Turbostar trains which can operate with class 158 to form 3 or 5 carriage services. For the opening of the Levenmouth branch 1 class 158 units received as special Leven reopening livery, different from the usual blue and white ScotRail livery.
This route is double track throughout with the exception of the connection from the Leven branch to the existing route between Kirkcaldy and Markinch. This route is only currently electrified between Edinburgh and Haymarket however parts of the Fife rail network are currently being electrified with the new branch being built to accomodate future electrification for electric and/or battery services.
