Safed: Where Art Meets Mystery in the Holy City

Описание: I traveled to Safed (Tzfat) a few days ago and explored one of the most unique and historic cities in Israel. I arrived at the Central Bus Station and began my walk along Jerusalem Street, making my way through the charming streets of the city.

Along Arlozorov Street, I unexpectedly discovered the Artists’ Quarter — a beautiful area filled with galleries and creative spaces. One of the highlights of my trip was visiting “The General Exhibition of the Safed Artists’ Colony,” a gallery located inside a former mosque that has been active since 1952. There I met two wonderful Israeli artists who speak Russian – Janna Shulrufer and Marina Pinsky– who kindly showed me around the exhibition. Inside, I explored artworks by contemporary Safed artists as well as older, historic pieces. I also met a local sculptor Johnathan Darmon who shared his impressive sculptures and an artist whose name is Nina Holtzer.

From there, I continued into Safed’s Old City, wandering through its narrow alleys full of galleries, ancient stone buildings, and a rich spiritual atmosphere. I visited the ancient synagogue dedicated to Rabbi Yosef Karo, the author of the Shulchan Aruch, and explored more hidden corners of the Old City.

Afterwards, I returned to Jerusalem Street near the Safed Municipality, enjoyed the beautiful and historic scenery, and continued walking all the way to the Citadel (Metzuda). At the top of the hill I reached a peaceful park, a memorial monument, and a breathtaking lookout over the mountains of the Galilee — the highest point in Safed.

This was my early December tour of Safed — a journey filled with art, history, culture, and stunning mountain views.
