“Taking something that’s personal and making it public—such as ‘Follow the Sound of My Voice’—is kind of a risk,” says X Ambassadors singer Sam Harris. “For the Townie album, I had this crazy idea to write a song for each band member—which meant I also had to write something about my big brother, Casey. Our relationship is a huge part of the band’s dynamic, as well as my life. It was a daunting task, and I immediately felt uncomfortable. So, I decided to tell Casey’s story, from when our mom discovered he was blind when he was two years old in verse one, to our starting a band together in verse two, and, finally, how our relationship is such a grounding force in my life.”
