Marshmallow is a perennial plant that can be found growing wild in some locations, but it’s not widespread everywhere. It is native to Europe and Asia. It’s hardy from zones 3-9 and grows 3-6 feet tall and has beautiful white or pink flowers. It’s a great option for marshy or wet areas of the garden!

Medicinally, Marshmallow root has very mucilaginous properties and thus is very soothing when taken internally for ailments like sore throat, cough, poor digestion. It has also been used topically on skin irritations and wounds due to it’s soothing effects as well as it’s anti-inflammatory properties. It’s also an ingredient in several salves used by breastfeeding women to soothe sore breasts.

Marshmallow is just a beautiful plant to add to your garden and natural medicine cabinet!
