Selection of Drill Bits for Drilling into Ceramic Tile:

Option 1:
Dewalt Masonry Drill Bit Set:
Quality Drill bits for drilling into masonry which includes ceramic tile. Not suitable for porcelain tiles.

Option 2:
Vermont Tile and Glass Drill Bit Set.
If all you need to do is drill a hole in a ceramic tile then this is the Go-To Drill Bit! Beautiful clean round holes every time with very little effort and you won't need the Nail Punch to start the hole off. The difference between this and the masonry drill bit above is that this one isn't multi-purpose. It's for ceramic tile and glass ONLY.

Please Note:
Drilling a hole in a ceramic wall tile or floor tile is a completely different experience to drilling a hole through a porcelain wall tile or floor tile. Porcelain tiles are extremely hard and require a special drill bit to drill through the tile. This video is dealing only with drilling a hole through a 'ceramic tile'.

Steps to How to Drill a Hole in a Wall Tile:

Step one:
Work out where you want to drill your hole.

Step two:
Apply masking tape (or painters tape) with an 'x' over where you want to drill your hole in the tile. With a pen or pencil, mark on the tape where you want the hole in the tile to be drilled.

Step 3:
Load up your cordless or corded drill with a carbide-tipped masonry drill bit suitable to the size of the hole that is to be drilled.

Step 4:
Place the drill on the mark to be drilled and with gentle pressure and on slow speed commence drilling. Ensure that you let the drill work slowly rather than you forcing the drill which can crack the tile. Do not have your drill on the 'hammer' setting as that may crack the tile.

Step 5:
Continue to apply gentle pressure to the back of the drill making sure to slow up even more when you are about to break through the tile.

QUICK TIP:
If the hole you're drilling is larger than about 6mm or ¼ inch l would suggest that you start off with a smaller pilot hole first. This will make the larger drill bit a lot easier to drill through the tile and you will reduce the risk of the tile cracking.
