Tens of thousands of gay rights activists have taken to the streets of Rome to demand equal rights.
Similar demonstrations took place Saturday Poland and Croatia.
Although the event carried a party like atmosphere. Demonstrators say they're voicing an important message.
This couple says they should be allowed to get married in Italy and not forced to say their vows abroad.
The crowd also included first-ever transgender member of the Italian Parliament, now a gay rights activist.
SOUNDBITE (English) Vladimir Luxuria, Gay rights advocate and former MP "The Italian government and the Italian political situation can only make it slow our process to gain civil rights but they cannot stop us.
The demonstrators are attacking the Vatican and the conservative government of Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.
