মহিষাসুর বধ কি আর্য অনার্য লড়াই? সত্যিই কি অসুর জাতির অস্তিত্ব আছে? হুদুড় দুর্গা বা অসুর পূজা কি কাউন্টার সংস্কৃতি প্রচারের প্রয়াস? দুর্গাপূজা এলেই এই সমস্ত বিতর্ক মাথা চাড়া দিয়ে ওঠে। সেই বিতর্কিত প্রশ্নগুলির উত্তর খোঁজা হয়েছে এই ভিডিওটিতে।

দক্ষিণ ভারতে যেমন রামায়ণের নায়ক রাবণ অনার্য জনগোষ্ঠীর প্রতিভূ, তেমনই এখানকার মানুষদের বিশ্বাসে দেবী দুর্গা খলনায়ক। মহিষাসুর নিধনের সঙ্গে আর্য অনার্য সংঘাতের প্রতিরূপ মিশিয়ে এই পশ্চিমবঙ্গেই দেবী দুর্গার পরিবর্তে পূজিত হন অসুর যা হুদুড় দুর্গা (Hudur Durga) নামে পরিচিত। পুরুলিয়ার আদিবাসী সম্প্রদায়ের কয়েকজন প্রতিভূ নিজেদের ‘অসুর’ জাতির সদস্য মনে করে তাঁদের পূর্বপুরুষের হত্যার দিন স্মরণ করে হুদুর দুর্গা পূজার মাধ্যমে।

উপকথা অনুযায়ী, চাইচাম্পা গ্রামের রাজা ছিলেন এই হুদুড় দুর্গা তথা অসুর উপজাতির রাজা। বহিরাগত আর্যরা এখানকার নিরীহ আদিবাসীদের উপর অত্যাচার করে জঙ্গল ও বিস্তীর্ণ ভূমির দখল নিতে এসেছিল। এর ফলেই আর্যশক্তি ও অনার্যদের মধ্যে যুদ্ধ অনিবার্য হয়ে ওঠে। আর্যরা বাহুবলে দড় না হলেও বুদ্ধি তাদের ছিল প্রখর। সেই বুদ্ধিতেই যখন কিছুতেই অনার্য অসুরদের সঙ্গে এঁটে উঠতে পারছিলেন না তারা, তখনই অপূর্ব সুন্দরী দেবীর রূপে দুর্গাকে পাঠান আর্যরা। তাঁরা জানতেন যে, আদিম অসুর উপজাতিদের মধ্যে নারীর সম্মান অনেক উচ্চে, তাই কোনো নারীর বিরুদ্ধে অসুরেরা অস্ত্রধারণ করবেন না। এই দুর্বলতার সুযোগে মহিষাসুরকে পরাজিত করতে সক্ষম হয় আর্যরা। অনেকে আবার মনে করেন, ছলনা করে মহিষাসুরকে বিবাহ করেন দুর্গা এবং বিবাহের নবম দিনে তাঁকে হত্যা করেন তিনি। আর তাই নবমীর দিনেই খেরওয়াল উপজাতির মানুষ তাঁদের আদিপুরুষ মহিষাসুরকে স্মরণ করতে বিশেষ উৎসব পালন করে থাকে যাকে ‘দাঁশাই উৎসব’ বলা হয়। এই উৎসব তাঁদের কাছে দুঃখের উৎসব - যা পূর্বযুগের রাজাকে অন্যায় ভাবে হত্যাকে মনে রেখেই করা হয়।

Asur is worshiped instead of Goddess Durga in some places in West Bengal, which is known as Hudur Durga, mixing the image of Aryaa and non-Aryaa conflict with the killing of Mahisasur. Some of the tribal community of Purulia consider themselves members of the 'Asur' race and commemorate the day of their ancestors' killing by performing Hudur Durga Puja.

According to legend, the king of Chaichampa village was Hudur Durga, the king of the Asura tribe. The outsider Aryans came to occupy the forests and vast tracts of land by oppressing the innocent natives here. As a result, war between Aryashakti and non-Aryans became inevitable. Although the Aryans were not strong in arms, their intellect was sharp. With that intelligence, when they could not compete with the Asuras, the Aryans sent Durga in the form of a beautiful goddess. They knew that women were held in high esteem among the primitive Asura tribes, so the Asuras would not take up arms against any woman. Taking advantage of this weakness, the Aryans were able to defeat Mahishasura. Many believe that Durga cheated Mahishasura and killed him on the ninth day of the wedding. And so on the Navami day, the people of the Kherwal tribe celebrate a special festival called 'Danshai festival' to remember their ancestor Mahishasura. This festival is a festival of sorrow for them - it is done to remember the wrongful killing of the king of the past.
