This video shows my top 5 strength building workouts for rugby. These are inspired by the big 3 powerlifting movements (squat, bench and deadlift).
My former teammate Tinashe Muchena joins me for a killer workout. Tinashe is one of my all time favorite teammates. He’s a great leader, exceptional player, strong as a bull and a future star in the MLR or any other professional rugby league.
We first go through a “rugby warmup” that can be utilized before any workout session to get your body primed for the session.
Next we take you through the SSB back squat, Sumo deadlift, bench press with chains, landmine kneeling press, and finally a core stabilization drill.
We believe all of these movements are essential for any rugby player and powerlifter. These movements build strength, stability and speed. All these abilities are required for an athlete to perform at the highest level.
