Lima capital of Peru, historic center, cathedral, Convent of San Francisco : UNESCO World Heritage

Описание: I visited Lima on the last day in Peru after climbing Chachani, 6075 m mountain from Arequipa. Lima has a population of more than 9.7 million in its urban area and more than 11 million in its metropolitan area. The city of Lima is considered to be the political, cultural, financial and commercial center of Peru. Lima is home to one of the oldest institutions of higher learning: the National University of San Marcos, founded on 12 May 1551, is the first officially established and the oldest continuously functioning university in the New World.Examples of colonial architecture include structures such as the Basilica and Convent of San Francisco, the Lima Metropolitan Cathedral,These constructions were generally influenced by the styles of Spanish Neoclassicism, Spanish Baroque, and the Spanish Colonial styles. This third and current Cathedral of Lima was built between 1602 and 1797. It is dedicated to St John, Apostle and Evangelist.The crypt of Francisco Pizarro, completely covered with mosaics alluding to the Conquest. On one of the walls you can see the coat of arms of Lima. Since 1991 the cathedral has been included as a UNESCO World Heritage Site
