First of all, what is Uni-Assist?
Uni-Assist is a platform that evaluates international students’ documents before forwarding them to German universities.
It is actually a helper between students and universities
It tells us which documents are required to provide to uni
This makes our application to universities much easier

Not all universities use Uni-Assist — but many public universities do.
So always check on the university website whether they use Uni-Assist or direct application.
Let me clear you that There four ways to Apply to Universities:

1. Only direct application
2. Through Uni Assist
3. Partial (VPD from uni assist + Direct application )
4. Partial ( BID/BAN* from Hochschulstart.de + Direct Application )

Advantage via Uni Assist:
You need to submit docs only once then uni assist send them to all unis. You apply only one time

*BAN = Bewerber-Authentifizierungsnummer

You get both after registering on hochschulstart.de.
uni-assist sometimes asks for both BID and BAN.


⚠️ COMMON MISTAKES TO AVOID

❌ Applying close to deadline
❌ Uploading unclear documents
❌ Not checking language requirements
❌ Ignoring Uni-Assist messages

Always apply early — at least 1 month before deadline.

Receiving Admission

If accepted, you will receive:

📩 Admission letter (Zulassungsbescheid)

With this letter, you can:

✔️ Open blocked account
✔️ Apply for student visa
✔️ Prepare for Germany

Congratulations 🥳

Very important:
Always use a professional email address — not funny usernames.

Choosing University & Course

After login:

1️⃣ Go to “Search Study Offers”
2️⃣ Select:
• Semester (Summer 2026)
• Degree (Bachelor or Master)
• Subject

• Courses of study → Shows full degree programs (normal Bachelor or Master).
• Partial courses of study → Shows programs where you study only part of a degree (like exchange or transfer students).

Check carefully:
• Language requirement (IELTS / TOEFL / German)
• Application deadline
• Required documents

Every university has different requirements.
DoSV (Dialogorientiertes Service-Verfahren) is a German dialogue-oriented service procedure used by universities to coordinate and allocate study places for popular undergraduate programs. It allows students to manage multiple applications efficiently via the hochschulstart.de

Uploading Documents

This is the most important part.

You usually need:

✔️ Passport
✔️ School certificates (12th grade / Bachelor)
✔️ Transcripts
✔️ Language certificate
✔️ CV
✔️ Motivation letter


Important tips:
• Scan documents clearly
• Combine multi-page documents into one PDF
• Translate documents if required
• Upload correct format (PDF only)

Mistakes in documents = delay or rejection ❌

Paying Uni-Assist Fee

Uni-Assist is not free.

You must pay:
• First university fee 75€
• Additional fee for each extra university 30€

Payment methods:
• Credit card
• Online transfer

Your application is only processed after payment.

After submission:

Uni-Assist checks your documents.

Processing time:
Around 4–6 weeks (sometimes longer near deadlines)

If documents are complete:
They forward your application to the university.
Then the university makes final decision.
