---Gensokyo. The last paradise left on this island nation.
Long ago, it was isolated from the outside world by a barrier, and became a world where the flow of time has stopped.

In spring of that year, Gensokyo faced the biggest threat it had ever seen (for the umpteenth time).
The flow of time throughout all of Gensokyo had stopped. Literally, this time. Not figuratively.
Every creature, every plant, every drop of water or gust of wind-- it happened suddenly, without anything resembling a warning or omen.

With all color fading, Gensokyo's transformed state resembled a pearl-white ocean.
But aside from the culprits, there was still one person alive and able to see this bizarre world.

---The Scarlet Devil Mansion.
The western-style mansion in which the time-manipulating Super Maid™ Sakuya Izayoi (plus some other whoevers) worked.

Having narrowly avoided disaster with her own time-control powers, Sakuya spent a while thinking about how to deal with this unforeseen event.
With the use of her ability, she could unfreeze her master and resume activity even with the surrounding environment plunged into silence.
But then, her master would probably insist that "Sakuya and I shall hunt down the incident's mastermind!", and refuse to hear any differently.

Even with everything in sight still frozen, her master would be in danger of evaporating in direct sunlight. It wouldn't do to thoughtlessly let her out of the mansion in (what was moments ago) the blistering midday heat.
After some brief hesitation, Sakuya left her master where she was and set out to find the local incident resolution specialist.
It would normally put her at a huge disadvantage to disrupt an enemy's state of frozen time, but right now, the person she had in mind was the perfect one to use this ability on.

---The Hakurei Shrine.
Having been unfrozen by Sakuya, the shrine's maiden, Reimu Hakurei, was in a state of absolute fury.
She was determined to crush the cruel, abhorrent mastermind under her foot.

With the natural luck and talent she was blessed with, it was never hard for Reimu to swiftly deal with any incident she'd confirmed the outbreak of.
But this time, she didn't even have a chance to react to the sudden, massive time freeze. Perhaps the enemy, too, had kept in mind the presence of Gensokyo's all-too-famous incident resolver, Reimu (and also Marisa, the ordinary magician who Sakuya unfroze along with her).

Marisa: "Man, that gave me a scare! If it weren't for Sakuya, we'd be toast right now."
Reimu: "Oh, shush. You could've just stayed there, scared stiff the whole time."
Sakuya: "Let's save our frustrations for the mastermind, shall we? We'll depart whenever you're ready."

---The device whirred on restlessly, emitting its mysterious writing.
The sight of it inspired confidence; by poring over the text, their plan's success would become more certain.

Her voice echoed into the distance in that motionless, pearl-white sky.
It was a joyous and euphoric song, hardly befitting of the feeling of death the rest of the world gave off.

Practically speaking, this stage isn't that difficult (which is normal for Stage 1), but there are some moments that can trip you up. Only thing you really need to keep an eye out for is the large enemies in the second half of the stage. With how many bullets they shoot, you will have to actually focus and get to an escape gap instead of just flying about freely.

Ranran isn't terribly difficult either and her attacks are fairly direct and self explanatory. Only thing that may catch you off guard is her second spell card where she disappears and the scoots in from the left or right side of the screen. Just make sure you keep up with her, without forgetting about the rest of the bullets around you.
