Ionut Farcas (Virginia Tech) and Tiezheng Tong (Arizona State University), are presented with the NAE’s new FOE-ERVA Idea Award at the 2026 NAE National Meeting. Established through a partnership between NAE and the NSF Engineering Research Visioning Alliance (ERVA), the award recognizes Frontiers of Engineering alumni who envision bold, transformative engineering research agendas that connect innovative engineering directions with breakthroughs in science.
Farcas is recognized “for a new paradigm for real-time predictive control of fusion plasmas.” Tong is recognized “for engineering systems at the AI water nexus.”
