Hey there, Bachelor fans. I'm Jager Weatherby from Wetpaint Entertainment, here to break down the sad news of what went wrong for Season 15 couple Brad Womack and Emily Maynard. Here's what we know about why Emily left Brad.
By the time the finale aired in March, Brad and Em had already broken up at least once. Why? For Emily, watching The Bachelor every Monday showed her how Brad had the tendency to say the exact same thing to several of his bachelorettes. "I felt less and less special," Emily told People Magazine.
They also just had basic lifestyle differences. Brad made it clear his chosen one was expected to move to him in Austin, Texas. Yet single mom Emily has a daughter, Ricki, now age 6, who not only had school and friends back in Charlotte, North Carolina, but her grandparents — the Hendricks family of NASCAR fame — were also there.
"I need stability," Emily told People of her decision not to move. "I didn't feel it would be a good move to take my daughter away from her life for a guy if I don't know if it's going to work out a month down the road."
Even though 38-year-old Brad is 14 years older than Emily, he's a bar owner who's used to late nights and fun times. Sounds like Emily didn't think he was ready for the responsibilities of instant fatherhood. Emily said, "It's hard for me to say, 'I am so tired, I want to go to bed at 8,' and for him to understand ... It's hard to convey what it's like to be a parent to somebody that has no idea."
The couple also had issues with the media. They wanted to live private lives while fans and paparazzi were hungry for updates on the couple. Dealing with the scrutiny took its toll on the couple, and they didn't even have each other nearby to lean on.
Brad blamed the breakup entirely on himself and his own temper. "I would get so angry and would feel almost violated," Brad said. "I would keep those feelings bottled up, and by the time I had the chance to speak to Em ... I would let that negative emotion come flooding out, and it was almost as if she was being attacked."
Distance, living arrangements, lifestyle differences, stubborn tempers, media scrutiny, and bad communication ultimately sunk the pair. And we gotta say, our hearts are a little broken as well.
