Persian, also known as Farsi in Iran, is a major language of the Iranian branch of the Indo-Iranian language family. It serves as the official language of Iran and has official status in Afghanistan (as Dari) and Tajikistan (as Tajik). Persian has a rich literary history dating back over a millennium, with renowned poets such as Hafez, Rumi, and Ferdowsi contributing to its legacy. Written in the Persian script, a modified version of the Arabic script, it is spoken by over 80 million native speakers and is known for its influence on neighboring languages and cultures in Central Asia and the Indian subcontinent. Persian's vocabulary and grammar have remained relatively stable over centuries, allowing modern speakers to understand classic Persian literature with relative ease.

Ossetian, or Ossetic, is an Eastern Iranian language spoken predominantly in the Caucasus region by the Ossetian people, primarily in North Ossetia–Alania (Russia) and South Ossetia (disputed territory in Georgia). It is the only surviving descendant of the Scytho-Sarmatian branch of the Iranian languages, preserving many archaic features. Ossetian has two main dialects: Iron, the more widely spoken and culturally dominant dialect, and Digor, which is less common but more conservative. The language uses the Cyrillic script, with additional letters to represent specific sounds. Rich in oral tradition and folklore, Ossetian plays a vital role in preserving the cultural identity of its speakers, with a literary history dating back to the 19th century.
