Smith’s expression “impartial spectator” ought not be confined to the conscience (“the man within the breast”). The expression "impartial spectator" must allow a being with some qualities associated with God. The expression "impartial spectator" is polysemous: it has several meanings. Klein's advice to ethicists: Understand the several meanings and how they relate to one another.
