1971-72 Television Season 50th Anniversary: The Persuaders (closing credits)

Описание: As we near the end of our tribute to the famous film stars who made their way onto the television landscape during 1971-1972 television season, we come now to a British import of significant note and pedigree - The Persuaders. Starring Tony Curtis and Roger Moore, the series was a hit in Britain and made the move to US soon after.

The Persuaders was a television series that was filmed and produced in Europe, and marked the end of an era on television of the secret agent genre television series (on both side of 'the pond') that had come to pass with the phenomenal success of the James Bond feature film series. From The Avengers in Britain, to The Man From U.N.C.L.E. in the United States, a flurry of spy and secret agents series became successes (or near successes) across the US television landscape from the mid 1960s to the early 1970s.

From Secret Agent Man to The Saint (also starring Roger Moore), to Bat Masterson (final season) to I Spy to It Takes a Thief, spies and were all the rage. And although there would be attempts to tape into that genre later in the 1970s... A Man Called Sloane with Robert Conrad comes to mind, the halcyon days of the television spy, secret agent, man of mystery came to a final curtain call with The Persuaders (and another British import, The Protectors).

The show was about the exploits of two handsome playboys: Brett Sinclair,
a wealthy and debonair British Lord (and race car driver), and Daniel Wilde, a self-made American millionaire from the Bronx. The two were 'persuaded' by a retired judge into becoming justice seeking troubleshooters to solve crimes and re-open investigations for the judge. Along the way of course, the two men encounter their fair share of lovely ladies (this being the early 1970s, there are quite a few of these encounters) and mishaps and adventures as they dash across Europe in their cool sports cars.

The series ran on ABC from September 18, 1971 to June 14, 1972. The series is fun to watch, and the DVD set (that also includes Robert Vaughn's The Protectors) is a great value... we purchased the DVD package over the recent holiday season for $5.00 on Amazon... a great value. Of note is that this series helped (along with The Saint) to get the producers of the James Bond franchise to give consideration to Roger Moore as they were casting the new post-Sean Connery era James Bond. And the rest is history, as they say.
