✨ My 2025 Wrap‑Up: “On the Turning Away” ✨
“On the turning away…” — Pink Floyd sang those words in 1987, but this year they’ve echoed louder than ever. Not because of my opinion, but because of what voters are telling pollsters about the policies and governance coming out of the Oval Office and Congress. 📉🇺🇸
This is my year‑end reflection — and an invitation.
🎵 About the Song
“On the Turning Away”
• Written by David Gilmour and Anthony Moore
• Recorded at Astoria Studio
and Britannia Row Studios
• Engineered by Andrew Jackson
• Lead vocals: David Gilmour
• Backing vocals: Rick Wright, Clare Torry,
Carol Kenyon, Doreen Chanter, Tessa Niles
• Musicians: Gilmour (guitars, vocals), Mason (drums), Wright (keyboards), Guy Pratt (bass), Jon Carin (keyboards), plus additional vocalists
We chose this song because its central warning — “no more turning away from the weak and the weary” — mirrors what voters say they’re reacting to in the polls. Again, not my judgment… but the public’s perception.
📊 Pollsters report that voters believe national leadership is “turning away” from:
• Affordability and economic relief
• Climate and energy priorities
• Moderation on immigration
• Legislative productivity
• Transparency
• Responsible governance during shutdowns
• Foreign policy commitments
• Behavioral stability
• Internal unity
• Everyday concerns of working families
So let’s say it plainly,
with the rhythm the moment deserves:
Turning away from affordability.
Turning away from climate.
Turning away from transparency.
Turning away from unity.
Turning away from everyday people.
When voters feel leaders are turning away from them… they turn away in return. That’s what the polling shows. That’s the civic mirror effect. 🔁
💬 Now I want to hear from you

We need more civic storytellers, not fewer.
🗳️ The ritual we perform together

Democracy isn’t guaranteed — it’s practiced.
And the opposite of “turning away”… is turning toward each other. 🤝🔥
🎨 Why we chose Friedrich’s
“Wanderer above the Sea of Fog”
Caspar David Friedrich (1774–1840), born in Greifswald, Germany, was a leading figure of the Romantic movement, known for painting solitary figures confronting vast, sublime landscapes.
Wanderer above the Sea of Fog (c. 1818), painted in Dresden and housed in the Hamburger Kunsthalle, reflects Friedrich’s belief that nature mirrors the inner state of the soul — and that a figure turned away from the viewer invites contemplation rather than escape.
In our reinterpretation, the fog becomes the American electorate’s uncertainty, and the distant Capitol and White House symbolize institutions that, according to polling, have “turned away” from the public in 2025. Just as the wanderer surveys the mist with resolve, the American people are now turning back — preparing to reshape the horizon in 2026. #️⃣
