With over a million street vendors in Delhi alone, informal workers play a critical role in urban economies worldwide. Their fight reflects a broader struggle for economic justice, inclusion, and the right to public space.
Over two decades, street vendor Manoj Kumar Rai transforms from a roadside paan seller into a community leader fighting for the rights and dignity of India’s informal workers. After migrating from Bihar to Delhi with almost nothing, his struggle to secure a livelihood becomes part of a much larger movement for survival and recognition.
Street vendors are the backbone of cities—yet their livelihoods are often under threat.
Street by Street follows the powerful stories of vendors in Delhi as they navigate harassment, financial hardship, and the fight for dignity. From selling vegetables, snacks, and textiles to running small mobile shops, these entrepreneurs keep cities alive—providing affordable goods to millions. But behind each stall lies a deeper struggle: battles with authorities, exploitative lenders, and the constant risk of eviction.
Through firsthand accounts, this film captures the resilience of street vendors organizing, asserting their rights, and building collective power through unions and community support. As they gain access to licenses, financial systems, and legal protections, they begin to challenge long-standing injustices—street by street.
This is a story of survival, solidarity, and the courage to stand up for one’s livelihood.
