Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump delivers remarks after receiving a briefing on Hurricane Helene response.
The death toll from Hurricane Helene rose to at least 52 and thousands of people were trapped as devastating floods hit the southeastern United States.
The 400 mile-wide storm made landfall in Florida’s Big Bend just before midnight on Thursday, with sustained winds of up to 140mph and an “unsurvivable” storm surge.
“Nature sure is powerful,” said John Tompkins, a resident of Cedar Key, on the northwest coast of the state, whose waterfront hotel was destroyed when waves from the Gulf of Mexico broke over the sea wall and sliced away the building’s entire ground floor.
