FROM THE DARKEST TIMES; HOMELESSNESS, SURVIVORS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE TO CREATING ONE OF THE MOST RENOWNED DANCE STUDIOS IN THE UK, TEACHING AND PERFORMING ALL OVER THE WORLD.

The Big Dance Company based in Chapel Street, Penzance best known for making the live semi finals of Britains Got Talent, have since gone on to win numerous awards for their work in the community, performing in over 15 countries across the world including Bahrain for the Grand Prix, DisneyLand California, the Philippines, China, Malaysia, Abu dhabi, the Netherlands, to
name a few, plus achieving world titles at competitions and conventions Nationally and Internationally, delivering anti bullying, antisocial behaviour and knife crime workshops across the UK, leading a mental health awareness program across the UK with celebrity choreographer Lukas McFarlane and guest for lunch with HRH Queen Elizebeth on St Michaels mount.

The Big Dance Company has journeyed over the past 25 years, building incredible stories of battling trauma and challenges and celebrating successes and milestones. On the 11th February the Story So Far was told through emotional and explosive dance choreography by world renowned choreographers in collaboration with dynamic cinematic film shot by cornish film producer / maker Kyle Richardson who was once part of the infamous Cornish Treasure, Flava.

The show will featured 130 local dancers and special guests, plus VIP choreographers who will be joining Fiona and her team to create the show of their lives at the Hall for Cornwall.

The dance school were told after surviving lockdown through zoom that the building that they had called their home for the past 18 years was being sold on the open market and after 3 years battling to save the historic community building with the incredible support of the Methodist Church, Penzance Town Council, Local Councillors and courageous members of the community they are now about to exchange contracts securing the future of the Big Dance Company and many other local community groups. What a perfect way to celebrate 24 years!

The story of how myself, Fiona Richardson grew up and the journey endured from being homeless with a new baby to rewriting my ‘impossible’ story of now, along with our amazing team nurture and mentor hundreds of young people to follow their dreams no matter what dark times you may face. Anyone can re- write their story. The story is told through contemporary dance, hip hop, acrobatics and commercial dance, with dancers as young as 6 years old through to industry professionals, featuring alumni dancers that have come back to dance with their studio after many years.
