“Our county’s healthcare system is bleeding money — and they want you to pay for it.
Enough is enough. Before they raise another tax or demand another bailout, we demand reform.
Let’s fix what’s broken, bring transparency to spending, and stop this skyrocketing deficit before it before it drains more resources meant for public safety, seniors, children, and housing.
Santa Clara County has cut spending in public safety, services for seniors, children and families and housing, while the spending on hospital system has skyrocketed over the years.
Santa Clara County’s spending in healthcare has almost tripled, soaring from $2.2 billion in 2015
to over $6.1 billion in 2025. This now accounts for 55% of the entire budget.
Santa Clara County spends 55% of expenditure on healthcare (and growing), while other counties spend only 25% on healthcare. (Alameda, San Mateo, Los Angeles, San Diego)
Santa Clara County spends three times per resident than LA County LA population is 5 times of SCC. LA spends 12.5B / 5 = 2.5B
SCC spends 7.5B
Meaning SCC spends 3 times LA spent per resident
El Camino Hospital District, funded by 1% property tax, has surplus of $163 millions. Santa Clara County hospitals lose $600 millions per year, projected loss to grow to $1.4-3 billions (without federal cuts in HR1).
Santa Clara County claims that they have a balanced budget, while County hospitals lose $600 millions per year. They took your tax dollars to fill the growing hole they’ve created, by cutting other county services, such as public safety, seniors, children, families, and housing.
Now they want MORE of your money to fill their growing hole.
Due to the 2% cap, Santa Clara County CANNOT raise sales tax at all. SB 335 (2023-24 by Cortese)
exempted SCC from 2% cap to allow them to raise sales tax by 0.625%.
Santa Clara County has been planning to raise sales tax since 2023, beyond the 2% cap, long before Trump was elected, long before HR1 was adopted. They took advantage of voters using the 2025 Special Election.
County Leaders Want a Bailout for Their Failing Hospital System And They Want You to Pay for It...
We demand a reform of the healthcare system to stop the skyrocketing deficit!
No on Measure A!
