Casement C2 was breached on day 10 of the battle -- The defenders sealed the access and destroyed the tunnel with explosives -- The access is blocked and the remains of attacking troops are still there;
With the loss of C2 the fort massif was very vulnerable and attacking forces placed shaped charges on the cupola B2 to try to gain access. -- Having thicker armour than Eben-Emael - the cupola held -- but fearing another entry -- B2 was sealed off and explosives placed at the base of the stairwell and half way up the stairs

The fortress is open to the public every third Sunday of the month from April till November and other times by arrangement. Areas shown in this clip are not included in the standard tour.
The fortress is between Liege and Maastricht and only a few kms from the excellent motorway network. There is plenty of parking and it is possible to eat and stay nearby.
