As Thrillist Media Group grew bigger, they decided to make a round of hires in senior management. According to founder Ben Lerer, that decision didn't pay off. "It was just creating middlemen and creating barriers to communication," he told the Big Stage.
Instead, they made a decision to promote from within, and to hire staff on the front lines. "[We're] investing in people who can do, and not people who can tell others what to do," says Lerer.
