This simple thing is often overlooked, but is incredibly valuable. By adding charcoal to the coop and run, you are eliminating all smell, giving the chickens an option to eat if/when needed, and almost as important as the smell, creating more fertility by making biochar from charcoal. The biochar can then be used wherever needed, and will be full of all the nutrients it's absorbed over the season. Make sure you give it plenty of time, preferably a season or more to complete. Dont forget to utilize the compost made, as it's beautiful stuff. Once harvested, lay down more mulch and charcoal and allow the process to repeat.
