Hey guys and welcome back to Mad About Skin where in todays video we are talking azelaic acid and how to use it in your skincare routine for the best skin benefits. How to choose the right strength azelaic acid for your skins needs.

Azelaic acid is one of my favourite ingredients in my skincare routine and has delivered me great results against my adult acne, acne scarring and hyperpigmentation. However choosing the right strength azelaic acid can be a challenge so in this video I share with you the benefits and side effects of the different strengths and help you to work out the best azelaic acid for your skincare routine.

Azelaic acid as an ingredient has been clinically proven to reduce the amount of acne causing bacteria on the skin, it also reduces pigment production to even out the skin tone and and calm and soothe skin, even for those suffering with rosacea.

Choosing the right strength azelaic acid is crucial to getting all the great benefits you want to see whilst also minimising irritation and other side effects.

20% azelaic acid - best used in consolation with a medical professional who will advise on how best to use it for your own skin type. Will deliver the best results against melasma but can cause significant irritation to the skin

15% azelaic acid - only available in some countries but this concentration is a good option for quick results in people without skin sensitivity. Can be sensitising on first use but this will decrease over time and great for those looking to maximise the results without the need of a prescription

10% azelaic acid - the strength which most brands formulate with as this is one available OTC in most countries of the world. This strength will deliver great results in the long term with a minimal risk of side effects and is one of the best strengths for those with sensitive skin

5% azelaic acid - this is the best option for those new to azelaic acid and with a sensitive skin type. this strength works well alongside other active ingredients and can also be used as a maintenance strength when you have achieved your desired results with higher concentrations.
