OVERVIEW:
HBO's hit series 'Succession' had a tragic ending, officially staking its claim as a kind of dark comedy. This video is less of a review and more of an analysis of some of the underlying themes of the show. To me, the starkest theme of the show was that of childhood -- and what can go wrong when it never truly ends. Kendall, Shiv, and Roman Roy's journeys in the show are ultimately cyclical, shifting the 'call to action' their characters never took to the audience after the three of them are seen relapsing into their old selves in the final frames of the show. In this essay, I also briefly explore the characters of Tom Wambsgans, Gregory Hirsch, and the similarly-tragic paradigm they find themselves in at the finale of the series.
