Often times, when you are injured at work and have filed a workersí compensation claim, a nurse case manager will be involved.

A nurse case manager is appointed to try and help save the insurance company money.

You need to understand the role of the nurse case manager, What is her motivation?

Her role is basically to be a spy and to help promote and save money for the insurance company who is constantly giving her these cases and feeding her family.

The nurse case manager is trying to help the insurance adjuster convince the doctor to release you to full duty or release you to some form of light duty, or that you don't need an MRI or you don't need this surgery.

The biggest thing I see is that the nurse case manger will actually go into the doctorís appointment with the injured worker so that you have no privacy with your doctor, my first recommendation is do not let this happen.

It is not a legal right of the nurse case manger to interfere, and people usually don't know that.

I tell injured workers to ask the case manager not to be there during the examination period but they can join the appointment after the exam during the consultation period.

That way you have private time to have that relationship with your doctor so that you and your doctor are on the same page and you're protected.

Then, you can be part of the conversation when the doctor speaks with the nurse case manager.

The nurse case manager can talk privately with the doctor at other times, but we donít want that so we want her to be able to participate in the second half of the appointment.
