For many years, the Disney Studio created Christmas cards that were sent not to the public, but to employees, artists, and close associates of the studio. These cards offer a rare glimpse into Disney animation history and studio culture at specific moments in time.
In this video, I share several original Disney Studio Christmas cards from my collection — beginning with a Roger Rabbit card from 1988, the first year I worked at Disney, and moving back through the decades to the 1950s and 1930s.
You’ll see a 1956 card created just after Disneyland opened, featuring Huey, Dewey, and Louie watching the brand-new Mickey Mouse Club on television, surrounded by Mickey Mouse Club magazines — while Donald Duck reacts in classic fashion. Inside is a 1957 calendar with artwork from Perri, which was about to be released.
The video concludes with a beautiful 1938 studio Christmas card created shortly after Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs premiered. Inside are illustrations of beloved Disney characters, including the Three Little Pigs and Mickey Mouse — and a final page that quietly captures a moment in transition, with Snow White still in theaters and Pinocchio listed as “coming soon,” two years before its release.
These cards were never meant to be historic — but today they offer a unique, personal look inside the Disney animation studio during some of its most important years.
