American engineer and reality television personality Marty Lagina, was born in Kingsford, Michigan, of part-Italian ancestry, and is probably best known for being part of the History Channel television series “The Curse of Oak Island”. Prior to becoming part of the show, Marty is said to have been successful in the engineering world, earning wealth even before the brothers found television fame; Marty along with his brother Rick own Oak Island Tours.
So just how rich is Marty Lagina, as of mid-2017? Celebrity dot money estimates that Marty’s net worth is over four million dollars, most of which can be attributed to the success of the television series, but also due to his career as an engineer. Marty also owns the Villa Mari vineyard, focused on creating high quality wine.
Marty’s interest in Oak Island began after he had read an issue of Reader’s Digest in January 1965. The magazine featured an article about the Restall family and their efforts in trying to solve the mystery of Oak Island. This article was one of the first widespread publications to mention the island, and in the decades that followed, television and radio shows, and various written articles would tell stories and speculate about the frequented island. After graduating from college, Marty started to work as an engineer and focused more on the energy business. His passion for engineering also helped him to try and figure out some of the unusual structures and occurrences on the island.
The Lagina family also had ties to vine-growing lands, so Marty and his son Alex established the Villa Mari Vineyards. Marty is a consultant to the business, making decisions on the grapes to plant as well as helping with the details of things like the winery and the tasting room. His son Alex manages the business most of the time, but also goes with his father to help film the television series on Oak Island.
The brothers acquired access to the island in 2006, when they purchased a 50% stake of Oak Island Tours Inc. The remaining part of the stock went to the Blankenship family, who became part of the reality television show as well. In 2010, Nova Scotia had given Oak Island Tours a Treasure Trove License which then became the Oak Island Treasure Act of 2011. The law allowed them to continue treasure hunting acts as long as it was within the guidelines made by the Department of Natural Resources. After gaining control of the tours, the brothers Marty and Rick were soon approached by Prometheus Entertainment which offered them a deal to create a reality television show that was later called “The Curse of Oak Island”. In the show, the brothers would talk about the different historical excursions on the island, as well as the mysteries that surround it. They then attempt to solve these mysteries by using modern technology and globally-renowned experts.
Despite Marty Lagina’s popularity on television, not much is known about his personal life. He is currently the majority owner of Chartwell Properties, L.L.C. Information such as his date of birth, family, education, and career remain mostly private. He continues to pursue his passion on the island and the television series also continues, apparently with ever increasing popularity.
