You are looking at an AlphaSmart Neo2 in a brand new enclosure. Designed for desktop use, just like a typewriter. The keyboard sits at an angle, the screen is repositioned for a better viewing angle, and the whole thing feels more like a little digital typewriter than the original flat slab. With a 3D printed transform kit.

One of my close friends, Hook, gave me an AlphaSmart Neo2 back when I was working on the Micro Journal Rev.2. He was shocked I didn't already own one.

And honestly, the Neo2 had everything I wanted in a software. Simple, distraction-free, perfect. But the physical design? The low angle and flat body just never clicked with me. I'd turn it on occasionally to admire its features, but it never became part of my daily writing routine. It was more like a rare artifact on my shelf than a tool I used.

Then disaster struck. While moving furniture, the Neo2 fell off the top shelf and the case shattered. My heart sank. This was a discontinued device, no replacement parts in sight. But when I inspected it, the internals were perfectly fine. That's when I had the idea. Instead of trying to repair it, why not give it a completely new life?

Three months, six full prints, countless tweaks, and one heartbreaking broken AlphaSmart later, I finally got it right. Nearly a kilogram of filament and 30+ hours of printing per enclosure. The end result is what you see here. A clean, simple design that makes the Neo2 feel at home on a desk, like a proper typewriter.
