Trump on reports U.S. Tomahawk likely struck near girl’s school in Iran

Описание: U.S. President Donald Trump suggested Monday that other countries could have struck an elementary school in southern Iran, claiming that Iran and other countries possess “generic” Tomahawk missiles like the one that appears to have been used in the attack.

“I will say that the Tomahawk, which is one of the most powerful weapons around, is used by, you know, is sold and used by other countries, you know that. Whether it’s Iran, who also has some Tomahawks — they wish they had more,” Trump said when asked by CNN’s Manu Raju whether the U.S. would accept any responsibility for the strike.

An investigation into the attack is underway. At least 168 children and 14 teachers died in the strike.

Trump said about the attack on Saturday that “based on what I’ve seen, that was done by Iran.” He softened that stance in remarks on Monday, saying he didn’t “know enough about it.”

“I think it’s something that I was told is under investigation, but Tomahawks are used by others,” the president said. “As you know, numerous other nations have Tomahawks. They buy them from us, but I will certainly — whatever the report shows, I’m willing to live with that report.”

The Tomahawk missile is not a “generic” weapon as Trump claims. While countries like the US, the United Kingdom and Australia possess them, Iran does not.
Iran has blamed the U.S. for the school strike, according to Iranian state media.

Footage has emerged that appears to show a US missile — an American BGM or UGM-109 Tomahawk Land Attack Missile (TLAM) — targeting the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) naval base adjacent to the school where Iranian state media say scores of children were killed.
